Railway Modellers' Club of Queensland
Information about the RMCQ
The Railway Modellers’ Club of Queensland is an Incorporated entity (I.A. 009526) which aims to:
- Promote fellowship among railway modellers by providing a social environment in which people can meet to exchange ideas and information on the craft of railway modelling,
- To assist and guide in methods of building and operating model railway equipment and prototype practices,
- To advance the hobby of railway modelling when and where possible by publications, meetings and other things necessary or incidental to the foregoing purpose,
- Support and promote the aims, practices and standards of the Australian Model Railway Association (AMRA), National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) whilst maintaining a close working relationship with the Southern Cross Model Railway Association (SCMRA).
Meetings are held from 2:00pm on the second Saturday of each month, exhibitions permitting,. The meetings are normally held in the Clubrooms, but may be in member’s homes. Our aim is to have a brief formal business session held first followed by an entertainment session and then afternoon tea. The entertainment may take the form of a slide show or talk on prototype information or a clinic giving instructions on such modelling topics as weathering, soldering, electrics, scenery methods, track laying, ballasting, etc. Clinics are also scheduled for these days from time to time which include all facets of the hobby, drawing upon the particular knowledge of club members in their area of expertise.
Running Sessions currently occur a number of scheduled times each month. Every Wednesday morning from 10:30am onwards a daytime running session/working bee is held. Before meetings on the second Saturday of each month from 11:00am and on the fourth Saturday of each month a weekend running session also occurs from 11:00am. From time to time members gather by themselves or with their friends to run a train, read a book, or conduct modelling activities in the clubrooms.
Clubrooms have been built on a leased parcel of land. This facility is available for use by members and their guests. The building is located in Buckley Park, Terrance Road, Brendale, in the Pine Rivers Shire. The club library, workbench, tools and members facilities are housed in these premises. Members have an option of paying their membership fees half-yearly or yearly in advance. Member’s guests pay $3 per visit to the clubrooms. Tea and Coffee making facilities and cold drinks are available for members and their guests in the clubrooms.
A Management Committee consisting of a President, Vice President, Secretary, a Treasurer and a Committee Member governs the club. This committee is elected yearly during the Annual General Meeting.
'The Semaphore' is a monthly magazine published by the Club for members which contains news and information on club activities, prototype news, modelling hints and articles. Submissions in the form of articles, reviews, modelling tips are most welcome. Here is an example of one of the Semaphore magazines - Semaphore, October 2006(please click here)
The Club caters for all scales and interests and encourages all aspects of railway modelling. Occasionally an outing may be organised so members can spend some time on a club activity. An annual modelling competition is held in conjunction with a Christmas function held each December.
